Eastbourne Music Collective (EMC), founded in March 2022, is dedicated to reviving the local music scene for the younger generation. Co-founder Caine Hemmingway, along with Nancy Williams and Andrew Winter, aims to bring back the vibrancy of Eastbourne's music scene from 10-15 years ago. They believe in supporting artists of all genres, challenging the reluctance of some venues to host "louder, alternative music."
EMC, a non-profit organisation, seeks to attract talented local musicians to the town, rather than opportunities in London, Brighton, or Hastings due to a lack of suitable venues in Eastbourne.
Hemmingway emphasises the importance of boosting the town's economy by attracting more visitors through increased gigs. The group's five-year plan includes opening a dedicated venue in Eastbourne for better control and stability in organizing events.
Hemmingway stresses the impact of EMC in stimulating the local music scene. One example is the Green Light Music Festival, organised in collaboration with Your Eastbourne BID and Eastbourne Borough Council. The festival, scheduled for February 23-25, aims to showcase local talent through mainly free performances across various town center locations, providing a platform for musicians and contributing to the town's cultural vibrancy.
